The Man Room

The Man Room

I just love old globes. You know the ones... the ones with the perfect blue/green color. It was a huge obsession for a long time. In my old house, we built a wall unit especially for them and a vintage map. It was perfect... then a few months later we moved. We moved to a bigger house so the girls could have their own room. In the new house the only thing my husband asked for was to have one room that he could decide what went in it. I think that's pretty fair considering he lets me make the rest of the house as girly as I want. We call it the "man room" . Here's what he wanted....a big t.v., leather reclining chairs, and a monkey drinking booze print hanging above the bar.! I think I can live with that.

The frame on the bar really isn't empty. It is a poem my youngest wrote me when she was six. I just adore it.

A Little Space To Call My Own

This was my favorite space in my old house. It was tucked in the corner of my little kitchen. I loved it because it was the one place in the house that I could call my own. My husband had his own office, the kids didn't want to be in the kitchen, and I was always in the kitchen so it was perfect for me. I love using vintage items for storage. They look great and are fun to collect. Old little green tackle boxes filled with necessities fit perfectly in the mail slots.

Art Caddy

Craft Organizer

I found this vintage drink holder at the flea market and had to buy it. A few years ago I found one and turned it into an Art Caddy. My kids still use it today. It's the perfect size to carry around and it's easy enough to keep organized. Just a few coats of spray paint and plastic cups that are not too tall is all you need.

Have You Ever Heard Of Polyvor???

My daughter, Zoe, has been playing on this site called Polyvor for months. ( If you remember from previous posts she loves fashion) She would spend hours on there if I would let her. She kept saying, "Mom, you would love this." I glanced at it, saw it was appropriate and moved on. Tonight I actually sat down and checked the whole site out. OMG! It is so much fun. You can create collages from a bazillion images. I spent way too much time on there this evening. After I finally figured out how to work it, I created my own collage. The first one is mine and the next three are Zoe's.
Check it out.... you'll have fun.
Have a great week,
Stephanie

Magnetic Chalkboard

Vintage Framed Magnetic Chalkboard

There is something about a chalkboard in an old frame that makes me happy.
Here are the basic steps in creating one for yourself.
I buy a sheet of galvanized steel from Lowes (be sure to take a magnet with you) I use tin snips to cut it and then I add about 5 coats of chalkboard paint to it.
Cut a piece of cardboard to the same size as the galvanized steel and add it to the back for extra support.

I added a few magnets made from vintage buttons and a piece of chalk that I found in box at an estate sale. I hung the chalk from ribbon tied to a little eye hook that I attached to the top of the frame.
